Fundraising and Ways to Help

This year, the San Elijo Middle School band and choir program will give over 600 students the opportunity to learn the language of music.

The band and choir programs receive no special district funding. Making music happen at SEMS--putting on concerts, competing at festivals, keeping school instruments in working condition, supplying music, providing reeds "to borrow," valve oil, mouthpieces, drumsticks and mallets, and much more is made possible by the fundraising efforts of the SEMS Band Boosters.

There are many ways you can help the band boosters help the band and choir. We gratefully acknowledge the families who generously donated $100.00 toward the Band and choir's operating costs for this school year. All band and choir families have many opportunities to support the band and choir through the following programs:

Watch the band calender for upcoming Dine Outs at local restaurants with outdoor spaces. Our very own Screamin' Eagle Jazz Band provides the entertainment. We usually hold 3 or 4 a year. Don't miss them, they are lovely evenings out.

The Band and Choir sells Jamba Juice After school on several Fridays during the school year!  All proceeds go to the music program!

At our fall concerts our festive turkey provides an opportunity to buy music for the band. Each feather has the name of a piece of music Ms. Kossler or Mrs. McInnis would like to purchase.

At the Winter Choir Concert, families have the opportunity to buy music for the choir!  Each snowball has the name of a piece of music Mrs. McInnis would like for the choir.

Our major fund raiser of the year, begins in November, with the Poinsettias being delivered in early December. Order them for your friends and family as early Christmas gifts.

Our end of year concert is a big affair, worthy of the location at which it is held; the Moonlight Amphitheater. Place an ad in our concert program and congratulate your student on his/her musical success, or advertise your business. Proceeds pay for the cost of printing the programs.

We hire a professional to video the spring concert, so you don't have to. You will be amazed at your child's performance and the evening as a whole. The DVD set is a wonderful keepsake and don't forget to order a copy for your out of town relatives. The second disk contains additional videos and photos of the Band taken throughout the year.

If you are especially talented in the music department, and have time available during the school day, Ms. Kossler and Mrs. McInnis would love to meet you! Parent volunteers with other special talents like photography/videography/electronic repair/printing/pc maintenance, or with a truck or bar-b-que they are willing to lend, are also good to know! For us lesser mortals, Boosters is always glad to have a list of parents they can call on to help chaperone field trips, load/unload instruments at jazz events, and serve food, man doors, direct students at our Solo/Ensemble festival in February, Jazz Festival in March, and Awards Supper in early June. We hope you will be in touch! If you are really committed, and have the time available, consider joining the Boosters!
